I have been to the Lotus Garden a few times and the experience has always been good. To be honest, the initial impression is not great; it's a bit dark and dingy-looking. But the service is good, and the food outstanding. The danger with a standard Chinese is (a) tired food and (b) MSG overdose. Neither of these risks featured, as the food was crisp, fresh and plentiful.

It's a real shame about this place. It's very cute, down a sweet little side street in Earl's Court. Friendly welcome. Low lighting. Very relaxed atmosphere. All the ingredients for a succesful local Chinese.

We ordered the fixed menu, costing £11 each and consisting of two courses.

To start, deep fried prawns with a sort of sweet and spicey sauce. Very delicately done. But just two...more
