This place is so popular and busy, with a separate espresso bar and restaurant.

We found the espresso bar to serve exemplary espresso, great crema and superb flavour.

It is surprisingly restful to sit at the informal seating as there is wonderful art on the walls. There is an entrance to the espresso bar from the gallery above, handy.

The National Gallery Cafe/Espresso Bar is a nice casual spot to get an afternoon pick-me-up, if needed, while visiting the gallery. They offered sweet treats, sandwiches, soups, and a few hot items if you want casual dining or just to grab something quick. Coffee and tea drinks are also available. The staff was very friendly. www.nationalgallery.org.uk www.peytonandbryne.co.ukmore

Normally I'd go to the casual part of the cafe for a quick coffee, but it's nice to go to the sit down cafe for a meal and catching up sometime.

I had the afternoon tea set there and it was much better than I imagined. First of all it's a lot...more

Very good treacle tart! Good service. A bit pricey because it's in the gallery, but had a nice time.

Tea was also good.more
