The food at The National Dining Rooms befits a restaurant that overlooks Trafalgar Square – it is proudly and resolutely British. Our mission is simple: to seek out, celebrate and transform the finest British regional produce into exquisite modern dishes that represent the best of Britain’s abundant food treasures.
This is the perfect place for an indulgent and unhurried lunch. For brunch or a snack, our cosy café area is the place to grab a Peyton & Byrne tea or coffee and a freshly-made British cake or homemade pie. For a more leisurely treat, drop by from 3pm for our famous National Afternoon Tea, a lavish spread of sandwiches, scones and cakes served with tea or champagne.

After a wonderful visit to The National Gallery, I was walking by and the thought of a good meal over came me.
I glanced at the menu and said yes, this would make me happy.
I went a healthier route and had the Wild Mushroom Soup of the day and the Spring vegetable crudite' with Fontodi olive oil and dips.
The soup was excellent. It was low in salt which made it great for me being an older guy...Read More
We had afternoon tea here. Afternoon tea is served after 2:30 pm. You select your tea first. We chose two pots. One was Darjeeling and the other was English Breakfast Tea. It comes in black teapots with sugar and milk. Accompanying the tea is a three tiered tray filled with crust less sandwiches (smoked salmon, curry chicken, cucumber slices, ham). The curry chicken sandwiches were so...Read More
I could not have been more pleased with our service and our meal. I made reservations- we were a party of 7- turns out they weren't that busy on a Monday, but one never knows. I'm glad I had the reservation. My students and I were seeing London- and had eaten breakfast in The Crypt, seen Trafalgar, trotted through the National Gallery, and were hungry. We had a delightful lunch. I had the...Read More
My husband and I literally spent the best part of a day in the National Gallery, and stopped in to the National Dining Room for lunch so as to avoid Art Overload.
We were lucky to score a table at the window that overlooks Trafalgar Square. Wow! What a great spot to watch the world go by!
We both ordered the lunch special - A grilled Wiltshire ham and cheddar sandwich with English mustard...Read More
Pretty much what everyone else said. A big letdown. Ambiance is a bit dated and didnt look very fresh or inviting. Lighting sucked and there werent very good views.
Went here for tea which is 17.50/person and gets you a few small sandwiches and mediocre food. They also add a 12.5% tip automatically which is garbage considering the god awful service we received. Ended up being 80 pounds for 4...Read More
