Tourists and suits all converge here, in this bit of grass, to get away from the craziness of their days. Not many places to really sit comfortably, but if you look carefully you'll find a bench or a low wall where you can perch for a rest or to eat your packed lunch. Suits are drawn to this little oasis of green calm like a fly to a nice fresh poop. Come one o'clock you'll need eyes like a hawk to search out a free bench. Most people share so you'll normally find somewhere to perch. There really isn't anywhere else to sit in comfort to eat your packed lunch in the locale, but be mindful not to sit or stand on the grass - that isn't allowed.

So the Embankment Gardens are kind-of-semi-hidden away on the Embankment between Temple and Embankment tube stations... but it is an oasis of calm on a beautiful day like today, a little distance away from the traffic roaring down the Embankment, and a pleasant green space to enjoy an afternoon, just to wander through or sit and relax.

These gardens are a beautiful, tranquil place to be when the sun's out as I discovered a few months ago. You feel like you've chanced upon a right little hidden gem in Central London that feels almost as if you're in a village somewhere in the English countryside!
Benches are few and far between so make sure you nab one at the first opportunity and ensure you observe the keep off the grass...more
