I'm working in the area, so discovering this place independently was a godsend. Wasn't aware that it was quite popular already, but I can see why -- the prices are great and the food is to die for. This is probably my favorite place EVER to eat fish and chips. And MUSHY PEAS! Super cheap, delicious food, great outdoor area to watch people near Portobello Road.
Just a little takeout place, no credit cards, CASH. 5 pounds for a lunch special. Perfectly battered, crispy Cod - DRENCH it in malt vinegar (or maybe that's just me), crispy chips and MUSHY PEAS!!

I had to stop by George's Portobello Fish Bar and a recent trip to the Saturday Portobello Market in London since it is supposed to be so highly recommended. I had the standard fish and chips with beans and a coke; a good deal for 6 pounds but the food was disappointing to me. The fish was just barely cooked and the fries did not have much taste so I will not return.more
I asked the ladies in a kitchen shop where they would have dinner and they pointed us here. It was fantastic. Apparently voted the best fish and chips in London. It was lovely.more
Not even close to the best we had. Actually just OK. Service not friendly. Fish bit greasy and chips dry with a weird texture. Disappointing.more
