Troia Bar and Restaurant

About

This smart glass-fronted café, restaurant bar on Belvedere Road is neighbours with the Royal Festival Hall, Yo Sushi! and Chez Gerard in that cultural hot-spot, the Southbank. The 82-dishes (excluding set, special and children meals) offer a comprehensive taste of Turkey's national (healthy) diet. There's kisir, a cold starter of nuts, bulgar wheat, herbs and spring onions. Hearty mains include kuzu guvec, a lamb casserole, and a delicious mariage of runner beans and onions served with a rich tomato sauce and rice called yesil fasulye. There are fish, pasta, rice, and special veggie dishes too. Desserts make an intriguing change from treacle pudding and cheesecake. How about kaymakh kestane - sweet chestnuts sprinkled with chestnuts and served with home-made cream?

Good quick Mediterranean lunch at Southwark. Only drawback was the constant vapor smoke drafting down the patio. Hummus was fantastic. Chicken tender and flavorful.more

While the interior is a little spartan and the chairs are VERY short, the food is inexpensive and delicious.

The staff are VERY friendly and accommodating.

If I was a local, I'd be a repeat customer.more

After watching the fireworks on the Southbank, Isabel B and I wandered in here.

Buzzy vibe but not full. Beautifully decorated on a Middle Eastern theme with some lovely, colourful and ornate lighting. I'm assuming the chairs were intended to be authentic but they were really low. It felt odd sitting in them.

I took pasta with salmon and green siding salad - both were quite good and well composed although the salad had a...more
