St George's Church Hanover Square
Overview
Built 1721-24 to the designs of John James, as one of the Fifty Churches projected by Queen Anne's Act of 1711, at a cost of 10,000 pounds. The reredos, from the workshop of Grinling Gibbons, frame's 'The Last Supper', painted by William Kent in 1724. The windows above contain early 16thC Flemish glass from Antwerp. Handel was a regular worshipper, and many famous people have been married at St George's.
