After much trying we found the theatre (always good to do a recon in the afternoon!). It's close to the other theatres but not in the heart of the district. It's a small, rather intimate venue and I doubt there's a bad seat in the house. The lobby is small, and while the bar area is small as well, the service was fast, friendly and efficient. I saw Flash Dance the Musical here the beginning of October whilst still in preview. It is a splendid venue for seeing a show. It is just the right size. We had second row seats and did not have to strain our necks any to see the stage. Having seats close to the stage here is not a problem since the stage elevation is not exaggerated. My last trip to London, this past November, saw me stop in at the Shaftesbury Theatre to see HAIRSPRAY. Now, I'm a New Yorker, but somehow skipped seeing the show when it was on Broadway. But as a guest of the wonderful Phill Jupitus, who happened to have stepped into the heels of Edna Turnblad, I finally got to see it, and boy, am I glad I did! The real address should be St Giles High Street not Shaftesbury ave unless there is 2 addresses, but its close enough. The place was hard to find coming on foot from Tottenham Court Road. If you know me personally, can you just pretend Im not from this city?....LOL. I cant always remember my way around!
