The Tonkatsu is to die for!
Staff is the friendliest you'll find in London as well.
Dishes are not expensive, yet the quality is great.
Try the dragon roll with the Tonkatsu, a miso soup to wrap it up.
Charming little place.more
Shimogamo is one of the less spoken about Japanese restaurants, that in my opinion offers one of the best authentic Japanese food there is, in a traditional environment too. I'm not just talking about the sushi but also their hot dishes.
Most of the waitresses are Japanese and service was friendly, smiley and approachable. It's also reassuring to see a lot of Japanese families dining there...more
My friend really enjoyed eating here his first time, so he decided to bring me here tonight and I'm glad he did! The food didn't disappoint, it was tasty and authentic.
I had 3 Kind Sashimi, Pork Belly, Grilled Salmon Rice Ball with a Tea Broth, Tonkatsu, Chicken Dumplings, and to Green Tea Ice cream to finish. The food was very good, I wish I had a bigger belly to eat more!
I had Calpico...more
Shimogama serves seriously fresh chunky pieces of fish but it is pretty pricey.
As a group of 5 we each ordered our own donburi's (fish and rice) and a couple of other dishes to share ranging from £9-£18. All the dishes were pretty incredible but not dissimilar to cheaper alternatives.
Get the assorted dessert dish of you can't choose between the desserts! The green tea ice cream is to die for.more
In the hippie town of Camden is a hidden gem just 5min away from the tube station. This place gets filled with Japanese people living in North London which is a good sign! And I'm a regular there as well, they do homely food to fresh sushi.
The toban yaki is one of my favourite and depending on the day they might have beef/duck/pork and basically you grill them in front of you on a hot plate....more
