With a combination of delicious food, great wines and a real ambience, Café Rouge has embodied the style and je ne sais quoi of French dining since it opened way back in 1989.
Now with over 90 sites across the country it's just the place to mull over the morning papers with a cafe au lait and a croissant, pop in for a spot of lunch, share a post-work drink or relax over an evening meal.
The menu covers a range of French classics from croques and baguettes, ideal for a quick and easy snack, to more substantial fare such as steak frites and boeuf bourguignon. Likewise, the wines are predominately French; many made by lesser known producers, and provide the perfect accompaniment to the food on offer.
No hassle, no rush, no skinny- decaff-double-shot-to-go, just a vibrant atmosphere that moves with your moods throughout the day.

I have been going here for years. The service is always good and the resteraunt has a lovely feel to it. The food, however is a bit hit and miss .. The menu has become limited and the best dishes always seem to be removed from the menu. The loup de mere was really nice, and the rump of lamb was the best and tastiest dish ever, but both have been taken off the menu. Such a shame .more
This is one of my regular haunts - since it's next door! The food is good French food, well presented. The building is lovely and part of it dates back to the 15th century. It's an old pub "The Swan" and we managed to persuade Café Rouge to keep the name so its called "Café Rouge at The Swan". They do a Prix Fixe menu which offers very good value.more
visted Cafe rouge tonight. Have been several times now so can speak with experience. Atmosphere and semi authentic french staff are ok but its the food thats so bad. Chicken and chips and quiche and chips. Reminds me of chicken and chips in a basket at the bingo hall. No effort goes into the cooking or how it looks on the plate. My husband couldnt finish his so called french chicken as it was...more
We have found the service to be very variable (in fact, we have walked out on one occasion rather than wait any longer to be served.) But sometimes it is fine, and we like the food enough to keep coming back.
Lovely old building. Has its own car park also which is handy.
Overall, one of our favourite Ruislip restaurants.more
This restaurant is great. This place is pretty new but it is a lovely place. The atmosphere is nice, it is child-friendly and have got a good selection on the menu. They have kids set meal with a drink, main course and desert. The special for that day when I was there was steak of venison with potatoes and sauce. We ordered a side dish of spinach. The food was lovely. The staff was helpful and...more
