With a combination of delicious food, great wines and a real ambience, Café Rouge has embodied the style and je ne sais quoi of French dining since it opened way back in 1989.Now with over 90 sites across the country it's just the place to mull over the morning papers with a cafe au lait and a croissant, pop in for a spot of lunch, share a post-work drink or relax over an evening meal. The menu covers a range of French classics from croques and baguettes, ideal for a quick and easy snack, to more substantial fare such as steak frites and boeuf bourguignon. Likewise, the wines are predominately French; many made by lesser known producers, and provide the perfect accompaniment to the food on offer. No hassle, no rush, no skinny- decaff-double-shot-to-go, just a vibrant atmosphere that moves with your moods throughout the day.

The venue is stunning - a beautiful renovated Tudor building. The food is average, nothing special. The service is appalling - the place was largely empty and the three waiters were chatting and sipping on orange juice the entire time, aside from taking our ordermore
Service poor and staff don't take any notice regarding food allergies. I told the waiter I didn't want toast with my breakfast as I didn't eat wheat yet it arrived with toast on it and he said just give it to my friend. He missed the point totally. Food was only just warm and the only time we got good service was when we asked for the bill. I have been here a couple of times before but never...more
I have been going here for years. The service is always good and the resteraunt has a lovely feel to it. The food, however is a bit hit and miss .. The menu has become limited and the best dishes always seem to be removed from the menu. The loup de mere was really nice, and the rump of lamb was the best and tastiest dish ever, but both have been taken off the menu. Such a shame .more
visted Cafe rouge tonight. Have been several times now so can speak with experience. Atmosphere and semi authentic french staff are ok but its the food thats so bad. Chicken and chips and quiche and chips. Reminds me of chicken and chips in a basket at the bingo hall. No effort goes into the cooking or how it looks on the plate. My husband couldnt finish his so called french chicken as it was...more
We have found the service to be very variable (in fact, we have walked out on one occasion rather than wait any longer to be served.) But sometimes it is fine, and we like the food enough to keep coming back.
Lovely old building. Has its own car park also which is handy.
Overall, one of our favourite Ruislip restaurants.more
