Yes its a tourist trap.. and none of the vendors will haggle. They have been selling the same made in china garbage for the past 12 years. The music and independent artists are nice and I always buy a CD to support them. If you go there.. try it at sundown or later in the evening.more
My husband loves to go to Covent Garden. Me...I could take it or leave it. It's nice for a stroll and there are many nice restaurants to eat in. To me though, it's lost a bit of its charm as it has become commercialized. We were lucky to go when there was an organic market and the cheeses and fruit and veg were really nice. I just don't understand why people wants to watch bad comedy, magic shows and chinese people playing suspicious "traditional" music on panpipes (I tell you now, you sure don't see this crap in china).
It doesn't even have the ol' independent charm now that everything in the covered market itself is pretty much either crap (stalls) or chains (shop).

Yes! It is a tourist trap but what the hell! It's a tourist trap one must see in order to tick it off your list and have a bit of fun. It is much more manageable on the weekdays because once the weekend rolls in - so do every tourist on the planet by the busload! It's a great spot to watch the omnipresent street performers (some of them are better than others, but entertaining). Definitely...more
Such a lovely area to hang around, strolling or sitting somewhere for a coffee or some nice food.Young, vibrant, authentic, diverse and trendy area, the crowd alone is interesting enough to watch :) great!more
