Formerly a Victorian toilet, built around 1890 and mothballed in the 1960s, the Attendant was dormant for more than 50 years before being lovingly transformed into one of Europe's most unique espresso & food bar spaces.

After two-years' planning and restoration the old Attendant's office has been turned into a little kitchen and the original porcelain urinals have become an inspired coffee bench with green seating to match the original Victorian floor tiles.

I love drinking coffee in a toilet.... Actually no, I normally don't. But here at Attendant I really do. Located in a former underground communal toilet this place is away from the Oxford Street crowds. The coffee is really great and the baked goods looks amazing too.more

I'm a sucker for kitchey and cutesy things.

The location is amazing, an inspiring use of old space that stays well this side of kitschy. The staff is very nice and it was cool and calm on a busy London Sunday.

Sinfully ridiculous pastries too (I had a cupcake made of mini Oreos and peanut butter).more

If you're looking for a quirky place to grab coffee, then this is it. Housed in a former underground, erm, toilet (hence the name), The Attendant has kept much of its original structure (including the urinals! But don't worry, they're well scrubbed up :)) and thus, its character.

They're also one of the few cafes in London that serves almond milk, which is great for those of us who are...more
