Occupying a bright, open space by the water's edge, the newly refurbished The Lounge is the more leisurely of the eating areas at The Runnymede, a 4-star hotel and spa on the Thames between pretty Egham and bustling Windsor. With its mid-century styled chic - all olives and burnt oranges, low slung armchairs and comfy, firm sofas - The Lounge offers a totally un-twee take on the old English pastime of Afternoon Tea. Served in contemporary, slick white china cups and saucers, tea is brewed to…well, a tee, while stacks of petite cakes and dainty sandwiches are presented on glass tea stands, almost too good to eat. Pure sophistication. If something more substantial takes your fancy, why not peruse the menu of lunches, light bites and simple dinners?
