Parasol Unit


Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art is a not-for-profit exhibition space devoted to promoting contemporary art for the benefit of the public. The core activity of Parasol unit is an outstanding exhibition programme which shows innovative and thought-provoking work by international contemporary artists. The foundation mounts three to four exhibitions a year in a variety of media: sculpture, painting, installation, video and photography, including some specifically commissioned works. Most of the exhibitions are accompanied by a publication, an artist's monograph or catalogue, which is distributed worldwide.

Anyone who says the word 'art' and 'gallery' in the same sentence to me will know about my love for the Victoria Miro; happily, there's an equally fine establishment next door; namely, the Parasol Unit. I went to see the stilling works of Persian painter Y Z Kami, which got a great write-up in the Independent's culture section.

Located right beside Victoria Miro, this is another relatively hidden gallery - but worth the effort to chase. It is quite a big not-for-profit space, with an excellent programme of international and British artists.
