Overview

The Clarence pub sits in the heart of the Balham community, where we pride ourselves on creating a relaxed atmosphere perfect for meeting with friends, family lunches, nervous first date territory, and pretty much everything in-between.

We have lots of treats to wet the appetite, from delicious pizzas cooked in our woodstone oven, to juicy burgers and hot-dogs with plenty of smaller snacks to suits everyone. You will be spoilt for choices with our spirit and beer selection, with local spirits and beers made right on our doorstep, (some brewed in our sister pub The Florence in Herne Hill) as well as a wide range of wines, international and craft beers from all over the world. With meaty and veggie brunches to enjoy at weekends, and a variety of roasts on Sundays, we’ve got all bases covered.

We only stopped by the Clarence for a quick glass of wine on a Friday evening. This was an enjoyable experience. It was fairly empty but had a small seated garden outside which was great in the warm weather.

The wine they have on tap is palatable which was quite surprising and also after spying on other peoples food choices the Garlic pizza bread looked tasty along with the nachos (just one...more

First impressions on walking in the door were not so great, but first impressions turned out to be quite wrong in this case. Not only did they serve real ale, but they had a locally brewed Bonobo (snicker) beer on. It was very good beer too.as was the Adnam's old ale they served.

The pub still has the slightly uncomfortable layout that it had in a previous incarnation as the Puzzle but I...more

This is a great pub and part of a smashing chain of pubs including the Bishop in dulwich and the castle somewhere near Camberwell i think.

The food menu is great. Roasts on a Sunday are worth a mention but I wouldn't be being fair if i didn't urge you to try their fishfinger sandwich instead. For pure comfort food pleasure this is hard to beat. The Sam Smiths cherry beer was a great find as...more

This pub is amazing! Great beer, great food, and great staff! It gets very busy on Saturday nights but is always a great laugh! Unfortunately the outside area could be better, there isn't really a "beer garden" and the sun gets cut off mid afternoon. I have never had a bad night in this bar, which says something considering I'm there at least 4 nights out of the 7 per week...

You get a good crowd in The Clarence. Plus a good range of beers and wines to get that crowd loose and chatty on the weekend.

The combination of Sam Smiths beers and chupa chops lollies always tempts me back.

I've heard the food is good too, I'll be back to try it!more
