Absolute brutalist concrete paradise.
...or perdition if you're one of the many Barbican-love-to-haters out there.
Imposing as it is, the Barbican complex is possibly my favourite place in London.
If its plethora of sky-walks, cascading planted terraces, cantilevered balconies, distinctive chamfered towers and multitude of levels aren't exciting enough, even the verdant lakes with...more
A London institution. They do pride themselves on the alternative and unique shows/concerts/exhibitions/films they put on. If you find yourself going to the Barbican for something, chances are you're going to be telling people about it the next day, be it good or bad.

I'm always a little confused when I go to the Barbican. What is this place? It seems to be a bunch of different venues put together.
I suppose it's a good hangout spot, if you want to catch up with friends. It's quiet, unlike a pub. It's spacious, unlike a coffee shop. It's also trendy-ish, unlike my flat.
When you go inside, you'll get the feeling that it's the lobby to a concert hall,...more
