Chisenhale Gallery is one of London's primary public spaces for contemporary art. Chisenhale provides a platform for uncompromising visual arts projects and its track record of developing new work has led to its reputation as a space of national and international significance.
The organisation's mission is to encourage and promote innovation and experimentation and it achieves this through the commissioning and presentation of challenging new works from international artists early in their careers. Chisenhale Gallery is dedicated to delivering its ambitious programme to a local, national and international audience.
The gallery's spectacular ex-industrial location provides a single, uninterrupted space measuring 2,500 square feet. Chisenhale's architectural qualities have defined the gallery's identity for over a decade, offering a challenge to and inspiration for artists and audiences alike.
Through its innovative education programme, Chisenhale Gallery provides access to contemporary art for the local population - and especially children - through its work in Tower Hamlets schools. For the past six years, Chisenhale's renowned Get Art project has trained artists to work with young people at each of the special educational needs schools in the borough.
Chisenhale Gallery is a charitable, non-profit organisation and is steered by a board of trustees, each with a wide range of backgrounds from the arts, education, law and business. The gallery receives revenue funding London Arts / Arts Council of England. Each exhibition project also receives additional funding, support or sponsorship from partner and collaborative bodies. The gallery's Get Art project is funded by Bridgehouse Estates Trust Fund, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Special Educational Needs Joint Initiative Training (SENJIT), Euler Trade Indemnity, Hedley Foundation and Elmgrant Trust.
