The Curzon Gallery
Overview
The Curzon Gallery originated out of the Furneaux Gallery, situated next door and founded in 1962 by Colonel Graham Abbott and his wife Sybil. Starting as an art materials shop, a professional artist, F Donald Blake, who showed at the Royal Academy, asked Graham Abbott if he was interested in his paintings. In those days it was uncommon to show celebrated work outside the West End. Colonel Abbott took on his paintings and sold them prodigiously from day one and continued to do so for 20 years. Donald Blake introduced many well-known artists, including Royal Academy members and those yet to make a name, to the gallery. Today a small handful of those artists still exhibit at the Curzon Gallery.
