Local favourite Geales is an old-fashioned fish and chip restaurant which has been frying up its simple, delicious seafood dishes for over 68 years. The subdued décor adds a hint of Notting Hill glamour to this otherwise straightforward restaurant, but it's the fish that everyone has come for. Specials come fresh from Devon and Cornwall, and there are plenty of favourites such as dressed crab, salmon and leek fishcakes and oysters straight from the bar.

Fish soup was excellent with chunks of fish, open clams, and bread filled with goat cheese. The flavor of the soup came from some lots of different seafood. Excellent starter. Cod fish and chips were wow. Best I've ever had.more
Oh my God, what a massive disappointment! A friend in Manhattan, a former Londoner herself, recommended this place for our London holiday. She will be appalled when I tell her our experience. The host (?) seated us in an isolated spot-mind you, the restaurant was dead on a Wednesday evening, which is not a good sign in itself-then left us without menus. We easily sat for 10 minutes waiting for...more
Not really worth the prices, IMHO. Being a visitor, I was expecting great fish and chips (£16) but it was nothing spectacular. The fish pie had plenty of seafood, was kind of hearty and filling, but tasted quite bland. The risotto, on the other hand, was flavorful enough but was presented poorly. Note we were the only patrons for the entire time we were there for lunch, and that's never a good...more
I find it difficult to write a review for a venue that I'm not that excited about, but I feel that it is my responsibility to inform others that are considering trying it out. Geales is one of those places.
Before coming here, I read all of the reviews on Yelp. The reviews are pretty mixed, and I wanted to discover for myself how many stars this place really deserves.

Bad bad bad. Below average fish and chips. Greasy, soggy, and lacking flavor. Plus, they made us wait over an hour for it and were rude. Like it was somehow our fault they forgot to put in our order. Twice. Didn't even offer us a free drink to lay over while we waited for the food. And it wasn't like the place was busy.
Definitely not worth walking over a mile to get here like I did....more
