Overview

On a pretty residential street just off of Warwick Avenue, you’ll discover a Persian oasis in the shape of Kateh, a contemporary Middle Eastern restaurant with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The Kateh menu is based around traditional Persian cuisine, all utterly authentic, showing those historical French influences in the flairs and techniques – something especially seen in Kateh’s sublime desserts. Carefully put together by owner Narges Pourkhomami, for whom Kateh is quite clearly a labour of love, the restaurant combines the best of modern Iranian hospitality and style with Persian authenticity and touches of London sophistication. So not only is the menu painstakingly put together to offer guests the perfect dining experience but Kateh’s surroundings; the white washed walls, the simplistic furniture and the eccentric reclaimed tabletops, add that something extra that elevates one’s visit to the next level.

Before my visit to Kateh, accrued from my Edgware Road experiences I lazily lumped Persian food with Middle Eastern cuisine. However this upmarket restaurant explores modern Iranian cooking and reflects the country's geographical location and influences that I hadn't considered before.

The dezfouli salad as a starter included a mix of fresh pomegranate, cucumber, dry mint, angelica and lemon...more

If you are looking for authentic, northern (AKA as the "shomali") region of Persia; you'll find it here. Trust me this comes from someone who grew up eating this stuff on a daily basis. The "shomali" region is next to the Caspian Sea, and has a different flare. Lots of seafood & vegetables used in their dishes. Portions are just right. Also try the "makhloot" for desert, you'll love it....more
