Hidden away down Crown Passage – ‘il vicolo’ means ‘the alleyway’ in Italian – the restaurant is a world away from the bustle of the city and is particularly well priced for a high-end part of town. It’s a good-looking spot that’s decorated in the stark modern style, though the service is traditional in its warmth and expertise. Il Vicolo focuses on the cuisine and wines of Sardinia, offering authentic Sardinian dishes as well as more familiar Italian dishes and daily specials. The dining room is populated with local office workers and tourists who’ve done their research. Il Vicolo’s Italian menu offers plenty of fish and seafood and signature dishes include crab salad with fresh asparagus and fresh mussels sautéed in garlic among many favourites.
