Myddelton House Gardens

About

Gardens created by E A Bowles (1865-1954). He was an enthusiastic collector who had a profound effect on the gardening public of the day. An artist and local benefactor, he also wrote several books which are still widely read today. Because the garden was created by its owner it has a 'personal feel' that is as rare as many of the plants that grow there. The garden is home to the national collection of award-winning Bearded Iris. There is also a beautiful carp lake, conservatory, a number of historical artefacts and over 1,000 naturalised bulbs.

This place is well hidden, but well worth the detour if you are after a quiet stroll and some peace and quiet.

The car park used to be free, but they have recently installed pay-and-display, so be careful you don't get caught out with these new charges. They do have a lovely cafe that does some nice home made cakes and simple food, and a wonderful enclosed courtyard where you can sit outside...more
