The Castle is a dedicated climbing centre run by climbers for climbers and is one of the premier centres in Europe. Since it first opened its doors to the public in October 1995 the Castle has grown, and is still expanding. The centre is now spread over 4 floors and caters for both beginners and experts, housing over 450 roped and lead routes from 8m to 13m in height and an extensive range of bouldering surfaces.

OK Castle. Time for an update.
The Castle continues to expand and provide more and more areas for climbing. I come regularly and rarely climb the same route twice.
They have new bouldering areas outside and above the cafe.
The wells, deep underground, have massively expanded the lead climbing provision with more to come including a massie traversing wall in the near future.
As far as climbing centres in London go The Castle is the best all-rounder of the bunch and definitely the first choice for a beginner for the variety of easier, forgiving top-roped climbs for the basics and ample bouldering. I always like taking my life in my hands and what better surroundings than with a bunch of polite English people. That's right, I'm the one up the wall swearing, sorry about that.
I've been to the Castle a few times and it's a great place to spend a few hours. It's slightly reminiscent of your school gym in terms of smells and facilities but then again it's not a day spa so suck it up....more

Just a few months late...
Of course, being an avid climber and finding the Castle a conveniently short walk away from me, I am a bit biased. But I'm also a bit spoilt with 4+ rock gyms back home, not to mention Sender One. With that said, I've experienced a variety of climbing gyms, the best to the worst, and the Castle is indeed fit for royalty.
