The Marksman is a proper British pub, the way proper British pubs should be. The decor is traditional, with an atmosphere to match. The staff (and locals) are friendly, and there's a good beer selection, including a few Meantime offerings on keg, and Hackney Brewery American Pale Ale on cask. It's very well priced for the area. Sunday brunch was remarkably quiet - especially considering the proximity to the flower market - but I attributed that to...more

There are a lot of pubs in London that pull a nice pint of beer, but few that do it with both a century old historic backdrop and delicious food.

The Marksman has a great feel, a sensible mix of history with some modern fixtures thrown in. From the kitchen comes a fabulous cheesburger, properly made, as though someone from a state with more cows than people, created it.

Tasty unpretentious...more
