If all the other pubs in London grouped together, aligned schedules, organised a night on the razz, and then needed a pub to go to...they'd go to The Marksman.

A proper, 100% traditional pub that sits right in the middle of Hackney Road, and is an absolute gem. A few friends and I walked in here not expecting a lot, more a drink or two on the way into Shoreditch for dinner but several hours...more

The Marksman is a proper British pub, the way proper British pubs should be. The decor is traditional, with an atmosphere to match. The staff (and locals) are friendly, and there's a good beer selection, including a few Meantime offerings on keg, and Hackney Brewery American Pale Ale on cask. It's very well priced for the area. It was manic trying to find a seat and a table to enjoy dinner at, but once we did...GAME ON! We had the Sunday roast and it was delicious, although those damn Yorkshire puds keep coming up more light and fried than fluffy and baked.

Everyone from the servers to the patrons were friendly and welcoming and I'm pretty happy to have finally found a place that's close enough to call my local.more

I have to say, I'd have never entered the threshhold of the Marksman had a good friend not been a regular.

I live a lot closer to Old Street and so there are a plethora of pubs to choose from. Thus, I'd always been too lazy to venture a little more far afield for a quiet drink.

Having been there time and time again, I have to admit, that along with a few other pubs in Shoreditch it's now...more
