About

See how artist Carola Grahn transforms fragmented and abstract thoughts into framed physical art in her series of reindeer hide canvases, Notes on Hide.

Reindeer hide is a traditional material used in duodji - Sami handicraft that unites function and art. Described by the artist as her 'writing about body, ethnicity and belonging', the series began with the piece, Dear Mr Fontana, where Grahn imagines herself in dialogue with Lucio Fontana, a prominent figure in European modern art.

Grahn takes this work as her starting point in exploring the friction between western and Sami worldviews.

Carola Grahn comes from Jokkmokk and lives and works in New York.
