Icons & Heroes, 50 Years And Beyond Artist, Andrew Ahern grew up in the small town of Malvern, Worcestershire. After escaping to Manchester to do a History of Art degree he went on to became a theatre performer gracing the west end stage and even as far afield as the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Now through the support of his beloved friend and colleague Mark Oakley he will put together his first ever exhibition of his current illustrative work in September. Through his transformation of the iconic Storm Trooper from Star Wars, Andrew has used his negative experience of homophobic bullying to create camp characters that take the homogenised uniformed norms and setting them free to a new and fun dimension. In recognition of the 50 years of decriminalisation of homosexuality in Great Britain, gay icons, heroes and activists are brought to life in the sheer joy and celebratory fashion of Andrew's illustrations.
