Carla Lippis: Cast A Dark Shadow at Watermans

About

"Divine" (Rolling Stone Germany) Lou Reed and Nancy Sinatra hand-in-hand on a desert death trip; Suicide and The Ventures jamming long into the night in a rickety old house; the angelic tones of Connie Francis drifting through the fevered dreams of David Lynch. Incorporating originals and re-contextualised classics, Carla deconstructs rock'n'roll into a haunting cabaret format. With Geoff Crowther and East End Cabaret's Vicky Falconer-Pritchard providing an esoteric accompaniment which includes guitar, keyboards, theremin and vintage drum machines, expect cabaret at its most unorthodox. Be the first to witness the follow-up to 2016's critically-lauded "Baby Carla's Bad Girl Rumble" in these exclusive previews for her new Edinburgh Fringe show. Australian singer Carla Lippis' multi-disciplinary musical career has encompassed alt-country (The Martial Hearts) and indie rock (The Rules). Following a string of appearances at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, a move to Europe saw her contribute vocals to Italy's post-folk instrumental group Sacri Cuori, alongside Tom Wait's guitarist Marc Ribot. Their subsequent E.P. "Florida" saw her duet with alt-country sensation M. Ward, and perform alongside Calexico and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. A new addition to London's West End, Carla has appeared as part of "The Black Cat Cabaret" and featured with Joey Arias in her recent residency at Crazy Coqs. "Like something straight out of a Tarantino film and oozes an impressively brooding sensuality. An absolute pleasure to listen to." (Edinburgh Festivals Magazine).
