The awards that definitively answers the question 'are women funny?' - the Funny Women Awards - are now in their 15th year and take place this Autumn with heats around the country. The Funny Women Awards have left a massive impression on the UK comedy scene. Previous winners and finalists include Bridget Christie, Zoe Lyons, Sara Pascoe and Katherine Ryan. "I had just started stand-up comedy when I won the award, and loads has changed since then. Funny Women provided me with lots of friends, advice, and exposure." Katherine Ryan, winner Stage Award 2008 Since 2003 Funny Women has travelled the country in search of the stars of tomorrow, seeing over 2500 contestants go through hundreds of heats. This year the awards will touch down in Dublin, Manchester, Exeter, London and Brighton. Regional finals and a prestigious final will take place early in 2018. There are four categories: Stage Award - aims to find the best new comedy performer(s). The winner receives a range of prizes including industry support for career development, including two fully supported shows. Each of the six Stage Award finalists will be mentored by an established comedian in preparation for the final. Comedy Writing Award - entrants submit a treatment (of one or two sides of A4) and three sample scenes of a comedy script for television. The prize includes mentoring and script optioning opportunities. Comedy Shorts Award - entry requires a film of up to six minutes that can utilise any comedic discipline as long as it makes sense as a cohesive film. Winners film is featured on www.funnywomen.com and support from industry experts. Best Show Award - recognises and reflects the burgeoning number of excellent full-length (an hour or more) shows from female comedians. The nominations are made by the public and shortlisted to be considered by a panel of industry judges. Winner's show is given an industry showcase.
