In a nutshell
A solo performance that uses live classical music, the sound of the body and spoken word to explore anxiety.
it's scary isn't it
you are feeling
you're feeling something
that reminds you of that fact
that you are
no more and no less
Breathe is a cacophony of soaring strings and spiralling sounds in an immersive, sensory solo performance.
Ambient, textural violin and electronic compositions are combined with the sound of Alicia's heartbeat and breath to create a vulnerable, unflinchingly honest dissection of anxiety and fear.
Part theatre, part concert, part raw experience, Breathe captures the truth of our human body's primal, carnal survival instincts.
What to Expect
The performance is centred around the sound of breath, with surround sound design throughout. The majority of the piece is constructed of contemporary classical, experimental music compositions responding to the breathing sounds that Alicia performs solo on a violin and electronics.
Alicia Jane Turner is a composer, violinist and performance artist whose work spans theatre, live art and contemporary classical music. Her solo work uses music and sound to explore intimacy, vulnerability and the relationship between the internal and external body. She is a regular collaborator with theatre-maker Christopher Brett Bailey.
