About

Movies have long relied on music to bring them to life. However, how are musicians inspired or influenced by movies? Can traces of films, half-remembered or directly recalled, filter into songs, shape an album or help create a concept? As Summer Screen draws to a musical close with the Herbie Hancock-scored Blow-Up and the rap-fuelled comedy-drama Patti Cake$, we take a look at the relationship between cinema and music from the perspective of artists who draw on the world of film for inspiration. Visionary multi-disciplined musician, performer and composer Barry Adamson, a former Bad Seed and David Lynch collaborator, who is capable of creating vivid images in the minds of his listeners. SPECIAL GUESTS: Songwriter and performer Charlotte Hatherley, formerly of Ash, currently touring with Birdy and a successful solo artist, whose new collection of songs and videos, True Love, takes inspiration from science-fiction cinema. Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey (aka Summer Camp) who helped create the film-essay Beyond Clueless and whose shimmering, romantic and atmospheric pop songs evoke the sensations of all our favourite teen movies Geremy Jasper, former member of New York rock band The Fever and an in-demand music-video and commercials director whose blazing, brilliant debut feature Patti Cake$ has played at Sundance, Cannes and has its UK premiere on Wednesday 23rd August at Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House.
