London Piano Festival: Two-Piano Marathon with Melvyn Tan, Ilya Itin, Lisa Smirnova, Danny Driver & more at Kings Place

About

London Piano Festival 2017 The heart of the London Piano Festival is a concert which celebrates the joys, challenges and sheer brilliance of music written for two pianos. To present these works a team of six internationally acclaimed pianists, each with their own distinctive voice, will team up to make this event an unmissable occasion. The programme presents a hugely diverse selection of works ranging from the perfection of Mozart and Schumann through to the enervating rhythms of Lutoslawski and John Adams. Our Russian theme continues with Shostakovich's playful Concertino and Rachmaninov's dark-hued final masterpiece Symphonic Dances. They continue with a world premiere by renowned Russian composer Elena Langer, entitled RedMare. Inspired by the artist's paintings from 1917, Elena says of the piece: 'Kandinsky's works from this time are colourful and bold - which is very Russian - but also strange and unique. None of them actually depicts the Revolution, almost as if it weren't happening!'
