The Tallis Scholars

Peter Phillips director

This programme of Italian masterpieces is centred round the unaccompanied (or prima prattica) writing of Monteverdi, the anniversary of whose birth in 1567 is being celebrated. This a cappella style reached its zenith in the music of Palestrina and then acquired a more harmonic and even madrigalian focus, as shown in the Monteverdi works, a process which could go no further once in the hands of Gesualdo. Add to this Allegri's Miserere - arguably the most famous piece of choral music in the world - and this promises to be an evening to savour.
