Al Murray makes a career out of satirising the British booze culture and in doing so he comes across as quite a larger lout. Audiences will no doubt be surprised then to learn that he originally studied history at Oxford. It was around this time that he started writing for Week Ending and Spitting Image. He toured with Frank Skinner in 1992 but at this time his act was based around sound effects and he soon became tired of the routine. Fortunately in 1994 Murray met Harry Hill who asked him to come up with ideas for his Pub Internationale show and the Pub Landlord was born and went on to win him a Perrier Award in 1999. This spawned several successful shows including And A Glass Of White Wine For The Lady, My Gaff, My Rules and Who Dares Wins as well as the television series Time, Gentlemen, Please.
