About

The idyllic grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage Site will play host to two fun family shows; 'The Wind in the Willows', 22 July to 28 August, and 'The Dream Fairies - Adventure Through Bubble Land', 29 July to 28 August. Tickets for the Australian Shakespeare Company productions, which run daily from Tuesday to Friday with two performances on Saturday and Sunday, also include daytime admission to the Gardens on the day of the performance. The Wind in the Willows is Kenneth Grahame's classic story of life on the riverbank. A rollicking yet gentle adventure with best friends Ratty, Mole, Badger, Otter and, of course, the arrogant, vain and hilarious Toad. This critically acclaimed outdoor theatre production, set against the magical backdrop of Kew Gardens' lake, is packed with much-loved colourful characters, music, song and laughter. A favourite of adults and children of all ages, this is interactive theatre at its very best. In The Dream Fairies, the adventurous Honeysuckle unexpectedly meets the fairies from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Honeysuckle has lost her wings and the Dream Fairies - cheeky Mustardseed, fluttery Moth, daring Cobweb and sweet Peaseblossom - have flown off course on their way to Fairy Land. Together, with the help of all the little elves and fairies, they go on an adventure to find Honeysuckle's wings and the special map to guide them home. Suitable for children aged three to six, this production is an interactive adventure full of sing-along, clap-along songs plus bubbles and acrobatics! Children are invited to come dressed as their favourite fairies or elves. "We're delighted to be staging these two fantastical family productions in the heart of our beautiful Gardens," said Adam Farrar, Head of Commercial Activities at RGB, Kew. "Both shows make the very most of their incredible surroundings with the lake as the perfect setting for Wind in the Willows and the Temple of Bellona and Berberis Dell providing an appropriately magical location for The Dream Fairies," he added. The Australian Shakespeare Company presents exciting outdoor adaptations of classical texts in botanical gardens and other beautiful locations around the world.
