Performers

The Festive Orchestra of London was formed in 1990 to perform the masterpieces of the Baroque in and around London. The players are equally at home on modern and period instruments, giving them a unique insight into this wonderful repertoire. They have performed in most of London's major venues, toured in Europe and the Middle East and have broadcast for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

Catherine Manson enjoys a versatile performing career spanning a wide variety of repertoire from Montiverdi to Mahler and appears as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader. Born in Scotland, her formative early studies were at the International Cello Centre with Jane and Lucy Cowan and she later studied with Roger Raphael and Krysia Osostowicz. A particular interest in baroque and classical performance led her to found the classical London Haydn Quartet which has a busy concert schedule in the UK and Europe.

She has recently been appointed as leader of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and is frequently invited as a guest leader for "period instrument" projects with ensembles including Smithsonian Chamber Players and Santa Fe Pro Musica in the USA, Ensemble Innovacion in Germany, Il Gardellino and Ensemble Explorations in Belgium. She has appeared in festivals and concert series throughout Europe and North America, both as a soloist and with chamber groups including the Chilingirian, Endellion and Atlantic (Canada) Quartets, the Raphael Ensemble and the Nash Ensemble.

For the past fifteen years she has been invited to participate in the Open Chamber Music at the International Musicians' Seminar, Prussia Cove. She has performed frequently with such artists as Steven Isserlis, Gabor Takacs, Trevor Pinnock, Anner Bylsma, Malcolm Bilson and Michael Chance, and also recorded for Hyperion, Dorian, Glossa, ASV and Teldec, in addition to many radio recordings and broadcasts in the U.K. and abroad. Teaching has always been an important part of Catherine's musical life; she is a co-founder of MusicWorks, a specialised chamber music course for young people, held four times a year at the Yehudi Menuhin School.
