Miguel Araujo: A Portuguese National Treasure at Barbican Centre

About

A prolific singer and songwriter known for combining Portuguese music styles with classical and contemporary musical instruments, join us for Miguel Araujo's first major UK concert.

Even when performing to large audiences, Miguel Araujo's music always has a certain intimate quality to it - the delicate sound of his guitar imbued with the power to lift the soul. Here he is joined by six of Portugal's best musicians; respected masters of their respective instruments, the band playing an eclectic mix of strings, piano and clarinet fused with glockenspiel and a wide variety of world percussion.

Outside of his acclaimed solo career - which spans two Gold albums to date, with a third scheduled for release in April 2017, Miguel Araujo is a well-respected songwriter who has written for many of the Fado greats, including Ana Moura, Antonio Zambujo and Carminho. Last year, Miguel Araujo teamed up Antonio Zambujo to perform a historical duo at both the Lisbon and Porto Coliseums, selling out an incredible 33 shows - a phenomenon that had never occurred before in the history of Portugal.
