Read about the everyday loves, losses, successes and pressures of diarists past and present with Dear Diary: a celebration of diaries and their digital descendants in Somerset House’s Inigo Rooms.

Showcasing paper and digital diaries from 15th-century manuscripts to 2017 blogs, the exhibition charts the evolution of the diary and compares the daily lives of individuals through different periods of history.

Highlights include a child’s perspective of the 1968 student riots in Paris, reflexions of a UNICEF worker in Yemen, the diary of a cross-dresser from Jane Austen’s time, confidences of an ambitious amateur actor, struggles of boy-mad teenage girls and diary apps for fitness fans. Get an insight into these diarists’ everyday life as they voice their thoughts and concerns in their personal diaries and public blogs.
