About

What a feeling! Fans of 1980s cinema will already be digging out their legwarmers and leotards, but for the uninitiated, Flashdance takes its inspiration from the movie of the same name. Set in Pittsburgh, USA, it tells the story of 18-year-old Alex, a welder by day and 'flashdancer' by night, whose dream is to obtain a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. It makes for an unmistakably unique musical about holding onto your dreams and love against all the odds. The show's score including the smash hit "Maniac", along with "Manhunt", "Gloria", "I Love Rock & Roll" and the Academy Award-winning title track "Flashdance - What a Feeling". The choreography comes courtesy of Arlene Phillips, who in the West End at least is as famous for her work on shows like Grease, Starlight Express, Saturday Night Fever as for dishing out constructive criticism from behind the Strictly Come Dancing judges' desk.
