About

One of America's foremost composers, Ned Rorem studied with Virgil Thomson and Aaron Copland before moving to Paris and becoming part of the circle of Poulenc, Auric and Cocteau. His five sets of candid diaries have won him renown and notoriety but as a composer his greatest legacy is perhaps his body of over 500 songs. Hailed by Time magazine as 'the world's best composer of art songs', he has also been referred to as 'an American Poulenc'. His witty and elegant settings rely on retaining the transparency of the texts.
