About

Welsh National Opera presents Wagner's opera about a shoe maker and a poet. The starring role of Hans Sachs is played by Bryn Terfel in his role debut. The performance is conducted by Lothar Koenigs, who has become renewed for his performances of German Operas. Richard Jones directs Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg (The Mastersingers Of Nuremberg) for the first time, he has directed three previous productions for Welsh National Opera, Hansel And Gretel, The Queen Of Spades and Wozzeck, all receiving praise from critics and winning awards. The cast is completed by Amanda Roocroft as Eva, Christopher Perves as Beckmesser and Brindley Sherratt as Pogner. Sung in German with English surtitles. This is Wagner's only comedy and the only opera which is set in a defined time and place, rather than a mystical setting. The opera is performed in three acts and is performed in approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes.
