About

If ever a band created its own mythology, then that band are Guns N' Roses. Controversy and media attention have followed the band, virtually continually, since their formation in Hollywood in 1985. Their various antics in their early days made them notorious and they were even named "the most dangerous band in the world" at one point. The phenomenal success of their debut album, Appetite For Destruction, in 1987 catapulted them to international attention and has gone on to sell millions of copies worldwide and been certified multi-platinum in the USA. Individual songs from it, such as Sweet Child O' Mine, have become staples of rock radio throughout the world. The band managed a feat never repeated before or since by having their albums, Use Your Illusion I and II, debut at numbers 1 and 2 in the Billboard chart on the day of release. Famously the band started to fragment in subsequent years with some members resigning and others being taken on only to be dispensed with subsequently. Although the band have never officially broken up, all the original members except Rose have now departed. Their album Chinese Democracy is famous for being one of the most delayed releases of all time. Much material was recorded with a number of different musicians but Rose was never happy with it. However, to the amazement of the music industry, the album actually saw the light of day in 2008 and the band have been a live attraction ever since.
