Tom Paxton at Cadogan Hall

About

Originally from Chicago, Paxton found his way to New York with the US Army then made his way onto the folk scene by performing small-scale gigs in coffee shops in the cultural melting pot of Greenwich Village. Over time, he gained in confidence and he honed his songwriting skills, creating haunting tunes that have become firmly ingrained in family life such as "What Did You Learn In School Today?" and "The Marvellous Toy", both of which have been translated into several languages. Paxton often draws on life experiences involving his wife and two daughters, investing his folk ditties with warmth and good humour as he dissects the human condition through his music. He has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy and garnered numerous Grammy Award nominations. As well expressing his political and social convictions through his songs, Paxton often addresses more light-hearted themes and he celebrates the wonderful absurdities of family life. With 50 years in the industry and counting, there is plenty to celebrate on this latest UK tour, which boasts a set-list of familiar and new material guaranteed to appeal to the ardent fans and recent converts.
