London based (when not on the road) singer-songwriter Brooke Sharkey was raised between France and England. At the age of 16, Brooke's musician father gave her some advice, which was to go out on the street and start busking the first few songs she'd written. Today, the songs are still her own, the lyrics of which can be found to switch seamlessly from English to French and vice versa. Brooke has left many an audience smitten with her intense and expressive style, drawing the listener into her ever more narrative songs with a spacious backdrop of chanson, blues, folk and Latin music. Brooke has released 2 EPs and a debut album 'One Dress' which came out in December 2012, recorded at Livingston studios in London. A very recent and very successful crowdfunding campaign puts her in good stead to release another album in the near future.Brooke and her band have toured many times around the UK, France and Italy playing living room shows, music venues and festivals. She has also toured in Belgium, Germany and Holland. The venue is a deliciously sumptuous sofa-filled home-crafted cinema like none other, housed in a beautiful building oozing the history both of the neighbourhood and of costume creation. Even the loos are like none other in London!! Uniquely again, a ticket entitles you to free tea/coffee. Stronger stuff is available at the riverside Mayflower Pub, only a few cobble stones away. Sands Films is an inspiringly intimate place to hear fabulous music and is easy to get to - a two minute walk from Rotherhithe Overground Station.
