See Shakespeare’s controversial play The Merchant of Venice as it returns to the Shakespeare’s Globe as part of a celebratory series of productions for the 400th anniversary of the playwright’s death.
The Merchant of Venice is the story of the controversial settlement of a debt between merchant Antonio and Jewish moneylender Shylock. Unable to repay the money due to the loss of his ships, Antonio is committed to giving Shylock a pound of his own flesh. The battle between Antonio and Shylock enables Shakespeare to arrange a moving play focusing on the themes of justice and mercy, human and divine law.
This production of The Merchant of Venice is a revival of the acclaimed 2015 Globe production with Jonathan Pryce as Shylock. This season at the Globe also sees Emma Rice as new Artistic Director in time for the Shakepeare400 celebrations throughout London.
