About

Examine Public Image Ltd’s early band design with Dennis Morris: PiL - First Issue to Metal Box at the ICA: Institute of Contemporary Arts.

The band Public Image Ltd (PiL) originally included singer John Lydon (also known as Johnny Rotten), guitarist Keith Levene, Jah Wobble on the bass and Jim Walker on the drums.

On display are photographs and objects relating to the early identity of the band created by designer and photographer Dennis Morris. Having also worked on images of Bob Marley and the Sex Pistols, Morris designed PiL’s early logo as well as 1978 and 1979 record sleeves, which included the distinctive Metal Box album cover.

A series of events take place alongside the exhibition, covering the role of technology in music, the development of alternative digital format and the revival of musical formats such as vinyl.
