About

Visit the City of London Heritage Gallery for a rare opportunity to see Shakespeare’s signature and a copy of the First Folio, part of a series of events marking 400 years since William Shakespeare’s death.

The signature of the famous playwright features on a 1613 deed for a Blackfriars property, one of just six documents in the world to carry Shakespeare’s signature. The First Folio is the first collected edition of Shakespeare’s plays, published in 1623; the Guildhall Library’s copy is usually only seen by Shakespearean scholars and actors. These two treasures go on display alongside documents relating to London’s playhouses.
