About

Celebrate the work of choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, as the Royal Opera House stages a mixed programme of his short works with After the Rain / New Christopher Wheeldon / Within the Golden Hour.

Performed by the Royal Ballet, Wheeldon’s triple bill of one-act ballets includes two of his finest works to date and one world premiere. After the Rain is a moving piece originally created for the New York City Ballet, set to music by Arvo Pärt. A lively ballet full of intricate ensembles and light pas de deux, Within the Golden Hour was commissioned by the San Francisco Ballet. His newest work is a dramatic piece inspired by the scandal that followed John Singer Sargent’s reveal of Portrait of Madame X.

Now the Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet, Christopher Wheeldon’s trademark style is a fusion of British and American dance styles picked up during his time as a dancer at both The Royal Ballet and New York City Ballet.
