My Mother Said I Never Should is the most performed play by any female playwright. Written by Charlotte Keatley, the play follows four generations of women.
Born in 1900, illegitimate Doris gives up her budding teaching career to give birth to her daughter Margaret, who in turn marries an American and has another girl, Jackie. An archetypal 60’s rebel, Jackie can’t face being a single mother, and decides that her baby Rosie would be better off being raised as Margaret’s daughter.
