See what happens when computer technology collides with art in Electronic Superhighway (2016-1966) at Whitechapel Gallery.
Exhibited in reverse chronological order, the more than 100 artworks transport you back through the last 50 years, highlighting major milestones in art and internet history. Including multimedia works, photography, paintings, sculptures, films and drawings, the projects on show range from Instagram experiments and digital image manipulations, to artists’ reactions to the dot-com phenomenon and computer-generated worlds, concluding with products from the 1966 Experiments in Art and Technology collaboration.
With more than 70 artists featured, including Lynn Hershman, Cory Arcangel, Jeremy Bailey, Constant Dullaart, James Bridle and Roy Ascott, the exhibition examines the vast possibilities offered by the internet age and its impact on creative output.
